Your Last Meal

You ever wish you knew your food allergies or sensitivities were coming and you could enjoy your last meal of your favorite foods before your life changes?

After reminiscing on the times before food sensitivities and wanting to eat the same foods I used to be able to eat, I kind of wish I knew my sensitivities were coming and enjoyed all my favorite foods one more time. Just indulge in everything and overeat your favorites for the last time.

If I knew that I was going to develop my food sensitivities, knowing what I can and can’t eat, I would have went all out enjoying all the foods that I can no longer eat. Some foods I can still eat in a way as a different version, for example, frozen french fries or fries from Five Guys, but others I can not or it’s just not the same. Those are the foods I want to eat just one more time. This is what my last day of eating whatever I wanted would’ve looked like.

Breakfast:

My breakfast would have consisted of some type of local breakfast restaurant or IHOP. Luckily, I can still eat pancakes and waffles if I make them from scratch, but it’s different when you can eat them at a restaurant. I would’ve gotten either chocolate chip pancakes or chocolate chocolate chip pancakes; most likely chocolate chocolate chip pancakes because, I mean, chocolate for breakfast, yes please! And don’t forget the home fries on the side.

Lunch:

For lunch I would enjoy an all you can eat soup, salad, and breadsticks at TGIF. It was my mom’s, sister’s, and I favorite meal and go-to lunch. The unlimited breadsticks, soup, and salad of your choice that was never ending, I mean, c’mon.

Or I would’ve been down for a buffet. The food’s not the best, but the thought of eating all different types of foods at once as a meal, going up as many times as you want, and dessert included. Sounds like a good day and good last meal to me.

Snack:

Snack would be fun to get cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. Anything with chocolate involved was my go-to cheesecake. Probably would be down for a s’mores cheesecake.

Then there’s all the junk food like cookies and candy. For candy, I would’ve definitely dived in some M&M’s and a good amount of Twizzlers. Those were my top favorite. Anything and everything Hershey’s. Literally any candy, especially chocolate (can you tell I love chocolate?) that I can’t eat now I would go all out.

I would love to eat every different flavor of Oreos and Chips Ahoy!. Any chips that I can no longer enjoy like Doritos, Cheetos, Lays…etc. Any baked goods from a bakery that I’m unable to enjoy now. Any ice cream like Ben & Jerry’s “Phish Food,” which was my favorite. Literally anything that I had to stop eating; just a small bite of each item.

Dinner:

I think my dream dinner and last meal would be Friendly’s. Most likely chicken fingers and fries and some kind of delicious sundae/ice cream to end the day.

Final Thoughts:

I would’ve eaten so much that day and enjoyed every second of it; every bite of the foods I can no longer enjoy. It was kind of fun thinking of a last meal and foods I would love to enjoy just one more time; foods I miss eating or just want to remember what they taste like. Sometimes I have those moments where I just want to eat some of those foods again and face the consequences later. For me, I just get a stomach ache, so it’s not too bad and pretty manageable, so I do get tempted at times just to eat a few M&M’s again, especially some new flavors. What will happen if I eat just 1 M&M?

This day of enjoying foods before everything changes would’ve been the best day ever and a day to remember. I think it wouldn’t be as hard sometimes knowing I was going to develop food sensitivities and eat everything I could before it all changes and I wouldn’t miss certain foods as much. Food sensitivities or allergies can just show up one day and you have to learn new ways of eating and new foods to eat without really cherishing and saying goodbye to your old eating habits. A good way to explain it and compare it for 2020 would be corona and how that just showed up, life changed right before our eyes, and we had to find a new way to live. Developing food sensitivities is just like that where you need to figure out what bothers your stomach and find new foods to consume after eating all the same foods and being used to that way of eating for years.

What I learned about developing food sensitivities is that luckily there is still very delicious foods I can eat, I just have to find them. Some of which are quite similar to some of my old favorites as an alternative. For example, I can still eat chocolate as long as it is allergy-friendly or doesn’t have soy lecithin in it. It’s out there, I just have to find those brands that make it. As much as I miss enjoying some of the old foods I used to be able to eat, I love a lot of the new foods that I can enjoy and just have to live life with my new favorites and say goodbye to the old favorites, even at times where I wish I could say goodbye just one more time.
